Hands off My Culture art print - 8x11inches, printed on great quality photopaper, glossy finish.
This piece was created in order to challenge cultural appropriation. It's gotten pretty popular on Instagram and actually received a few comments from folks who don't understand what cultural appropriation is or the harm it causes to people of colour.
When our cultures and traditions are inundated with white people changing and profiting off of them for years and years of meaning and work, it becomes painful and hurtful to see everywhere. When they take these things we hold dear to us, bend the meanings and shapes and patterns in ways where they lose meaning, so that they can sell them. When the popularized images of folks wearing our traditional clothes are not us - but our colonizers, it is hurtful.
So this piece represents a proud brown woman owning her culture and wearing it proudly.
