Hike Up Your Sarees, We're Going to Start The Revolution art print, 8x11 inches, printed on good quality photo paper, glossy finish, beautifully packaged and includes hand written note from artist.
The thought process behind this piece was that I wanted to draw powerful dark skin women in sarees - that image is just imprinted into my mind. I remember stories my nanu would tell me about Bengali women in sarees during the war making their way into dangerous territory to see their husbands, to deliver messages that they carries in their bras to their comrades. I remember my mother telling me about how they named her 'Manikarna' and called her Manu with affection. Soon, however, the name would get lost in the pages of history and their daughter would be remembered as 'Jhansi wali rani' who went to battle with her infant tied to her back and two swords in both her hands.
Brown women are an all powerful symbol, of bravery, hardship and revolution.
May this piece bring you strength.
