What's the story behind these pieces? Well, they're self portraits!
Β
It feels super uncomfortable putting a drawing of my own body out there for the world to see but I want to welcome this bravery - for so long, I have hated my body and could barely look myself in the mirror. For so long, I spent so much time looking at myself with disgust and hiding what I look like, not out of my own choice but out of shame and resentment.
I feel the passed few years, I've spent a lot of time healing from this pain and learning about body positivity and fat positivity. I've spent so much time trying to learn to love myself again and see my body as something normal and beautiful.
I wanted to represent all the things I really am insecure about - stretch marks, body hair, sagging breasts, stomach rolls, large arms, and so many other normal things we are all taught to fear.
Fatphobia is terrible - it's destructive, it's hurtful, so I want to contribute to challenging fatphobia in the small way that I can through this drawing!
(print is 8 x 10 inches, printed on glossy photo paper)
